At this point I'm sure everyone has heard of Kickstarter, so no need for me to go over what it is. I have backed a few things recently that I thought others may have an interest in, so I've decided to do an update showing what I'm backing.
Dreadball Xtreme - By Mantic Games
I've had my eye on Dreadball, but just never managed to pick it up. But now they're releasing Xtreme which is compatible with Dreadball "Normal". It's Xtreme! because it takes place in illegal underground matches that are much more violent with no referees. I kind of imagine it being the Combat Football I read about as a kid in the Car Wars game world. As of 2/27/14 it still has 16 days to go and is fully funded and then some. So if you get in, you don't have to worry about it not being funded. As a matter of fact, the next stretch goal is the Mechanites team, a team of robots. Hello Cyberball!
- No Referee = More Violence for Everyone: with no one to stop the bloodshed, anything goes! Sucker punches and stomps are the norm, and the introduction of explosive collars, deadly traps and bloodsucking aliens only increase the level of violence.
- Customize your Battlefield: games are organized in prisons and warehouses at a moment’s notice, using industrial scenery to shake things up - everywhere from the scoring zone to the ball launch location can change!
- Play as Enigmatic Sponsors: the powerful organizers behind the game, Sponsors dictate your play-style and are experts in intimidation, blackmail and illegal gambling. Best of all, Sponsors allow you to build entirely unique teams out of any player combination you like!"
Stencilis - By Wargames Bakery
Stencils for painting on your minis. Pretty straight forward. Made of a tough, thin silicone material they are going to release a bunch of designs and you can choose a certain number based on your pledge. Their top pledge allows you have a custom designed stencil made. I'm thinking of upgrading to that as I'd like to have a stencil for doing a labyrinth/maze design on my Minotaurs vehicles. Through this I found they did a previous Kickstarer for something called Basius which are large resin bases with a negative mold where you put green stuff on top of a base and press it in to make a scenic base. Pretty cool.
Arcadia Quest - By Cool Mini or Not
I have been wanting to get in on some of the Cool Mini or Not games. The chibi games they've been making look like a ton of fun. So here's their latest one. Each player is a group of adventurers from a guild trying to retake the town of Arcadia. From their page: "In Arcadia Quest, players lead guilds of intrepid heroes on an epic
campaign to dethrone the vampire lord and reclaim the mighty Arcadia for
their own. But only one guild may lead in the end, so players must
battle against each other as well as against the monstrous occupying
forces. Through the branching scenarios of the campaign, the heroes gain
awesome new weapons and abilities, and the game remembers the heroic
deeds of players from one session to the next, unlocking exciting new
possibilities in future scenarios!"
So these are the newest ones I've backed to be added to others I have done in the recent past: Warmachine Tactics, Alien Vs. Predator, Journey: Wrath of Demons, and Camp Grizzly being the miniature based games I have backed. Although Camp Grizzly is actually a board game, but they are making minis of the counselors, so I'm including it. :)
