Storm Raven Base Completed

Finally got the base done on my Storm Raven. Yes, yes, I know. It seems silly that I did the base before I did the Storm Raven. I don't even have the Raven fully assembled yet. However, here's the pics of the finished base.

WiP: Storm Raven Base

 Now that my Fantasy tournament is over, I have started working on the base for my Storm Raven. You can see it above, primed for painting. More pics inside of the following steps.

CincyCon Tournament Results

CincyCon was this Saturday and I played in the Warhammer Fantasy tournament. I ended up 1-2 and place 12th out of 26. I won the first round against Dwarfs, then lost against Empire and all Nurgle Demons. The Empire player I lost to won overall. Everyone was enjoyable to play against and I had a lot of fun in my first tournament.

Demigods Rising Kickstarter Canceled

I was a backer of this Kickstarter as you may well know from a previous post. Sadly, it's been canceled. You can find the official announcement on their Kickstarter page.

"Many of the backers that canceled told us that they left just because there were so many great campaigns at the moment that they simply couldn't afford to support everyone. Even though you can’t see that, we lost over a hundred backers in the last 7 days. That’s why we have decided to give a bit more time to our project."

 It's a shame. It looked like it had tons of potential. I have a feeling it'll be back, though. I can see what they were saying though, what with Dreadball Xtreme and Arcadia Quest by Mantic and Cool Mini or Not respectively ending recently. People may not have the funds after those two. Ahem... . Also a new Dwarven Forge Kickstarter just began that's sure to kill people's wallets.

Corsairs Complete!

At last, my Corsairs are done! Painted, Quickshaded, matte sprayed, and based.

Next step: The Bloodwrack Shrine. I already have some preliminary work done on it. Still trying to figure out what colors I want the chariot to be. In the mean time, here's a couple other shots of the Corsairs.

Screwed by Ebay Purchase

You may recall a Loot Call entry where I had a big bag of Vargheist bits that I was going to use the wings for converting Dark Steeds in Dark Pegasi. This was the image on the Ebay listing I bought. Twenty bucks = shipping for the lot. Seemed like a good deal. Imagine my dismay as I sat down to work on the conversion and took the wings out of the bag... AND THEY WERE ALL RIGHT SIDE WINGS!!! Every one of them. If you look in the picture, it looks like 3 sets, but it was a clever trick where three of the wings were positioned upside down to look like left side wings. So now I went to an online bitz seller and ordered the wings. With shipping it was $16, so cheaper AND I know I'm actually getting three sets of wings.

Moral of the story... scrutinize the pictures on Ebay very closely before buying. I just wish I hadn't left feedback already.

EDIT: Upon closer inspection at the behest of the commentators, it would seem that I got three sets of wings from the one Vargheist that has it's left arm up in the air. The membrane on that wing goes in such a way that it's the same curvature as the right arms. As such, you can't use the two together for wings on something like a Dark Pegasus other wise you'd have the membrane curving in opposite directions on the model which would look weird. So while the seller didn't deliberately deceive by selling 6 right wings, they were all from the one model that they can't be used together and look normal. :) It was my own fault for not paying closer attention.

Modeling Updates: Corsairs and Space Marines

 
 So this is a small update on my current projects. As you can see above, I got my corsairs dipped. They should be dry enough tomorrow to hit with the matte spray. Then I just need to base them. Additionally, I began work on my Storm Raven. Or more specifically, its base.

Got it all sanded and I included a couple pieces from the Scibor stuff I got in the last Loot Call post. One of the Spartan Basing Kit heads was used as well as two sections of the Templar Ruins. I also want to get a pack of the bricks from Secret Weapon Miniatures to put more rubble around the base. The flyer stem isn't glued on yet, just there for show until it gets primed. Now I just need to get the Storm Raven assembled.

Painting Tip: Masking Clean Lines

Ever been working on a larger miniature and used painter's/masking tape to try to get a clean line, but no matter how hard you try it bleeds under and messes it up?

Corsairs basecoat complete!

Just a quick update on my tournament painting progress. Got the base coat complete on my 28 Corsairs. They are now ready for a dip in the Quickshade. All I need to do now, other than dip them, is get their bases done, then work on the Bloodwrack Shrine. It's a big model so it's going to take some work. Once that's done, this unit will be complete.

Painting Woes: Forced Painting

 As I have previously mentioned, I am planning on going to a tournament later this month. While it doesn't have a painting requirement, it does have painting points. I would like to have something presentable for the tournament. Which leads me to a dilemma...

Kickstarter: A New Backing From Me - Demigods Rising

So I backed another project on Kickstarter. I should know better than to browse. Anything with miniatures, I am tempted by. The latest backing: Demigods Rising: Clash of Heroes. It's actually the first thing I ever backed that wasn't already over it's goal! It has 43 days to go as of this writing, so it's still really early.

It looks like a lot of fun, and the miniatures look great.

I mean come on... an Orc wielding a snake skeleton as a weapon? How awesome is that?

My Hobby Space: A Look Inside My Messy Hobby Room

When we moved to the new house, there was a room in the basement used as a guest room. I declared it as my hobby room and my wife was all too happy to give me a space out of the way for "all that crap". So I figured I'd give a tour of this messy hole in the wall.
